The Castle Country Secret Samaritan Program has been awarding various individuals with assistance as they are struggling to overcome an obstacle in their lives. The program is funded anonymously but Price City Community Director, Nick Tatton helps facilitate the program. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with him to learn more about the program.

“Well a couple of years ago I was approached to help facilitate some donations that people wanted to make to help those in need in the Castle Country area. Of course I said yes, that’s fun stuff to do and a good thing to do for our community. They wanted to pattern a year-round program, kind of a secret Santa type of idea, it became called Secret Samaritan,” said Tatton. He loves what the program does for individuals in need because it gives him the opportunity to assist with the recipients and he enjoys sharing details about the program with new outlets.

The recipients are nominated through writing by a family member, friend or neighbor. “They make a nomination to the program, those come to me, I send them along to the folks with money that make the decisions. They do remain anonymous, I don’t even know who they are, I’ve just agreed to help them out. So then they let me know who they’d like to help and in what manner. We go from there and make some donations in the community. As you mentioned, some are small but meaningful and some are quite big but also meaningful,” explained Tatton. Thus far they have helped individuals with groceries, mortgage payments, gift cards, assisted with health care, and even presented a car to someone who needed reliable transportation.

If you know someone that could benefit from the Castle Country Secret Samaritan Program its quite easy to apply as Tatton explains, “The folks that put that together didn’t want to have the formality of forms. To nominate someone, you would just send to me a letter that says, hi, this is my name and this is the name and contact information of the person I would like to nominate for some help. This is their situation, and this is the type of help they could use, and here’s a couple of other references that you could call to arrange things or verify its all a good thing to do.” Once Tatton has received a request he forwards it to the grantor, who happens to be anonymous, they look over the request, make a decision, then notify Tatton of their intentions.
