The Dino wrestling squad made the trip to Ben Lomond High School over the weekend to participate in the Divisional round. Trevor Jones was the top finisher for Carbon earning a second place finish at 120 pounds, and at the end of the two days 12 Dinos would qualify for state competition.
Juab walked away with the top spot in the A division earning 597.5 points, Emery finished in second with 224.5. Richfield, Canyon View and Manti rounded out the top five. Carbon finished the weekend in sixth with 147 points.
The Dinos have worked their way through the season that started way back on November 28 with the Blue and White Challenge. They hosted another successful Dave Smith Memorial tournament in December and continued to push their way to the Divisionals last weekend.
Jones landed in second place after a loss by technical fall in his first place match with Juab’s Rowdey Peterson in the 120 class. Adrian Vasquez was another Carbon wrestler at 120, earned a seventh place finish with a victory over Ben Lomond’s Troy Matthews by pin.
At the 126 pound weight class, Tanner Greenhalgh earned a fifth place finish by taking care of Juab’s Briley Dudley by pin. Colin Fausett at 150 earned his spot by beating Siaosi Taufatofua from Richfield by pin and Victor Huitt at 157 got the win over Daniel Salazar of Ben Lomond by decision.
Up next is the 3A State Championships taking place on February 15 & 16 in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center.
