
Swim teams from around the state took over the pool at Brigham Young University last weekend for the State Championships, which included 20 boys teams and 26 girls teams. Competing for two days in Provo, Carbon found itself with a pair of top 10 finishes as the boys landed in eighth and the girls earned third.
For the boys it was Judge Memorial taking the top spot with 392.5 points, Canyon View took second with 242 points. Juan Diego, Ogden and Union rounded out the top five. Carbon earned 112 points for eighth place.
Gabe Ibanez finished out his senior campaign with a pair of fifth place finishes in the 200 yard free turning in a time of 1:54.76 and in the 500 yard free crossing the finish in 5:20.21.
The boys would also claim a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay, as the team of Ibanez, sophomore Mason Engar, senior Nathan Engar , and junior Cameron Jones ended in a time of 3:32.22. In the 200 free relay Ibanez, Mason Engar, Nathan Engar, and senior Spencer Tullis earned fifth with a time of 1:36.88.
For the girls, Judge Memorial also earned the first place finish with 234 points, Juan Diego landed in second with 226 and Carbon took third with 182, Ogden and Emery made up the rest of the top five.
The Lady Dino team of juniors Alyssa Chamberlain, Mia Crompton and freshman Lisa King and Kanyon Christensen earned a second place finish in the 200 free relay turning in a time of 1:49.38.
The Lady Dinos will say good bye to two seniors, Kasia Earl and Lindsie Fausett and for the boys Ibanez, Nathan Engar, and Tullis along with Austin Horsely, Boyd Bradford and Garret Black, are all part of the class of 2023.
