Ascension St Matthews Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be held on Feb. 21 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the church located on 522 North Homestead Boulevard in Price. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Event Representative, Pam Adams to share all the details with listeners.
There’s great history behind the church, as Adams explains, “St Matthews is the Episcopal side of the church, and Ascension is the ELCA Lutheran side. We joined together as a wonderful fellowship in the Fall of 1984. So we’ve been together a long time, long before the call to common ministry happened.” It’s the collaboration that brings the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper to the church each year. The church looks forward to hosting this event for the community.
“Shrove Tuesday started forever, ever, ago, its older than I am, which is saying something. It’s been going for in the Episcopal tradition for hundred of years now. But it’s always the traditional start just before Lent, because Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent for us, the 40 days of Lent, leading up to Eastern,” said Adams. The annual Pancake Supper has become a tradition to kick off the church’s 40-day season of prayer and fasting.
The annual supper will take place at the church’s location of 522 North Homestead Boulevard in Price. “You get fresh made pancakes, as many as you can eat, and one serving of eggs, and ham, that goes along with it, and a drink of your choice. It’s one of the best deals in town. Family tickets are $20.00, single tickets are $5.00, and you can buy tickets at the door or you can but it from any member of the church or call the church and leave a message, and that way your name will be on the list,” stated Adams. To call and reserve your tickets for the supper call the church at (435) 637-0106.
The church’s gift shop will be open during the event so you can stop by to browse through the shop’s homemade items. Most of the items have been made by the parishioners and the store is run by volunteers. Items inside the shop include homemade items, Advent candles, wreaths, and religious jewelry.
