The final Utah High School Activities Association’s RPI rankings for 1A girl’s basketball were released Monday, setting the stage for the State Championship Tournament which will begin on Saturday.

Rich, from Region 22, earned the No. 1 spot, finishing the regular season at 17-3. Wendover out of Region 21 and Valley from Region 20 claimed the No.2 and No 3 spots respectively. The Green River Lady Pirates earned the No. 15 spot and The Lady Panthers of Pinnacle landed at the No. 20.

The top 20 teams in the classification now have their ranking for the season-ending tournament. Seeds 1-12 will receive a first round bye and will automatically advance to the second round which starts on March 1.

The field of 20 will be cut to 16 as teams 13-23 will play starting on Saturday at the higher seeded teams home site, with all games set for a 7 p.m. start:

*No. 14 Milford VS No. 19 Tintic

*No. 15 Green River VS. No. 18 Water Canyon

*No. 16 Intermountain Christian VS. No. 17 Monitcello

The second round of the 1A State Tournament will begin on Wednesday Mar. 1 at the Sevier Valley Center, with the higher seed being the home team:

*No. 8 Panguitch VS No. 9 Manila

*No. 7 Tabiona VS No. 10 Bryce Valley

*No. 6 Piute VS No. 11 Escalante

*No. 5 Monument Valley VS No. 12 Altamont

*No. 4 Wayne VS Whitehorse/Pinnacle

*No. 3 Valley VS Milford Tintic

*No. 2 Wendover VS Green River Water Canyon

*No.1 Rich VS Intermountain Christian/Monticello

The eight remaining teams will move into the quarterfinals, that will be held at the Sevier Valley Center on the campus of Snow College Richfield, beginning on March 2. Starting with this round, every team will be guaranteed two games. With a loss the team would fall into the consolation bracket with the best outcome being a third place finish.
