
Pinnacle finished the regular season with a share of the Region 23 title and opened the post season on their home floor against Dugway on Saturday. The Panthers jumped all over the Dugway Mustangs taking a 61-30 win.
The Panthers had a season for the history books finishing the season 17-6 with a 7-1 Region 23 mark, not only did they when a share of the division title, but they earned a home playoff game.
The Dugway Mustangs were in the No. 24 spot in the RPI with an 0-14 record. Dugway and Pinnacle met back on Nov.29, with the Panthers taking the 80-20 victory.
In the first half the Panthers came out and put up 20 points on Dugway while holding the Mustangs to four points in the quarter. It was all about Pinnacle in the second quarter as well putting up another 17 and taking a 37-12 lead into the half.
If the first half was about getting the lead then the third quarter was all about finishing. Pinnacle came out of the locker room and put up 19 and once again used their defense to hold the Mustangs to 4 points and building a 40 point lead headed into the fourth, where the Panthers would get the 61-30 win.
Jonathn Kessler led the Panthers with 12 points a pair of rebounds, five assists and four steals. Joey Howell added 1 with three boards and a pair of steals, Brody Howell had 10 with four steals, and Cole Barton scored nine with six rebounds in the win.
Up next for Pinnacle is a trip to Richfield to continue the 1A State Championships the opening round of play will happen at Richfield High School with the remaining rounds taking place at the Sevier Valley Center.
The Panthers get things started on Wednesday when they will face No. 7 Wendover, who went 15-6 and were a perfect 6-0 in Region 21 play. The game will tip-off at 5:30.
A loss against Wendover would end the season but a win would move them to the quarterfinals round on Thursday where they will face the winner of the No. 2 and No.15 match-up, either Manila or Green River.
