The MECCA Mountain Bike Club is hosting their 37th Annual Bike the Swell Lamar Guymon Memorial Mountain Bike Festival on Apr. 28 through Apr. 30. Event Representative, Terri Bennett took time to come into the Castle Country Radio to share all the details with listeners.
The MECCA Mountain Bike Club was established in 1985 and they have held a plethora of bike festivals over the years for local and out of town bicycle enthusiasts. “Its started with a group of people getting together and actually riding across the desert to Green River, and then on in to Moab, and they thought, wow this is really great and we would really like to show people our beautiful Swell. So they thought, we’ll lets do some bike festivals, see if we can get people to come, and we’ll take them on bike rides and show them what the San Rafael Swell is all about,” said Bennett. MECCA Mountain Bike Club is a non-profit organization and their goal is to promote bicycling with an emphasis on mountain biking.
“So the Buck Horn RV park is going to host our festival this year. If you go on to our web page https://www.biketheswell.org/ and look at our home page, then go into the registration page, there’s a code there for the Buck Horn RV Resort, and they will give a 10 percent discount for anyone that stays at that resort, that’s connected to this MECCA Bike Festival,” said Bennett. This year’s host will be located in the heart of Huntington, Utah, which is a perfect central location for all rides out to the Swell. The resort has full RV hook-ups available, along with cabins for overnight stays.
“The registration is now open and then again you go to our web page https://www.biketheswell.org/ It’s $75.00 to register for the festival and that includes your meals, your guided rides, and a t-shirt, and a swag bag full of goodies. We had some wonderful sponsors kick in this year and the sponsorships that our businesses gives us, helps us to provide for these t-shirts and swag bags,” said Bennett. Every online registered rider will receive a t-shirt and swag bag. You can register the day of the event but you will not be able to receive a swag bag or event t-shirt. Children 12 years old and under may ride and eat for free. However, they are not eligible for prizes and a t-shirt unless they are a full festival participant. There will be an opportunity drawing for a mountain bike on Friday night.
