Friday the Lady Dino softball team made the trip to Grantsville to face the Cowboys. These two teams know each other pretty well since they played twice last year with the two teams splitting both games. This time around, on the Cowboys’ turf, Grantsville would get the 10-0 win over Carbon.
The Dinos couldn’t get going offensively as their bats could only find four hits in the game, Grantsville senior pitcher Chloe Bytheway pitched six innings of shutout softball, keeping the Carbon off the scoreboard.
Jenna Richards had a 2-2 day at the plate, with Adri Abeyta and Makayla Scovill both going 1-3 in the loss for the Dinos.
Haven Byerly got the start for the Dinos and took the loss going 3.2 innings, giving up six hits, one earned run, and striking out four. Kylan Sorenson came in to finish out the game giving up three hits, two earned, and striking out three.
Carbon sits at 1-4 on the young season, there is still plenty of softball to be played before we get the State Championships in May.
The Lady Dinos will jump into Region 12 play on Friday when they travel to Cedar City to face Canyon View. Last season, these teams met three different times, With Carbon only winning one game in the series, at home, 5-4 on May 4. Canyon View actually ended the Dinos season last year 13-3 in the State Championships.
Even though they do have road games scheduled, Carbon’s next home game is not set until after Spring Break. April 12, they welcome the Richfield Wildcats to Price.
