
We are less than a month removed from the basketball season and that means it’s time for post-season awards, and Madi Orth of Carbon High school was given a second team All-State nod for her efforts on the court in the 2022-2023 season. The Deseret News All-State teams are based on coaches votes from a list of nominated players.
Orth, a 6-0 junior forward averaged 12.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 2.5 spg for the Carbon Dinos, earned a second team nod. Orth helped the Dinos to a 17-7 overall record which included a 5-1 Region 12 mark, and the No. 4 seed in the 3A State Championships.
This is Orth’s second All-State honor for basketball. In the 2020-2021 season she also received recognition for averaging 11.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 2.3 spg during her freshman campaign. That season Carbon went 17-7 and fell to eventual state champion Morgan in the semi-finals.
In 3A ,the player of the year was given to Alyvia Jaffa of Morgan. Jaffa, a 6-4 junior center averaged 15.3 ppg this season to go with her 12 rebounds and 2.8 bpg, she led the Trojans to a 3A State Championship this season.
