Get ready for one of biggest events held in the Castle Country area coming up on Sunday, April 2. It’s the 57th Annual Price Kiwanis Radio Auction where locals look forward to bidding on products and services from local merchants. Price Kiwanis Member, Joe Juliano stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details.
This past year marks the 100th year that the Price Kiwanis Club has put forth an effort in assisting children in Carbon and Emery Counties. “So Kiwanis is actually worldwide, we’re a fund for kids, most of the kids its 12 and under but we do high school/college for certain things also. Our Kiwanis Club, we’ve been so busy this last year, we were 100 years old last year. But with our funds, we donate back to the community, we donate to the eyeglass program, hearing aids, car seats for the community. We do a Kids Day in the Park every September where we have door prizes and hot dogs and ice cream and pop for kids 12 and under; and then at Christmas time we do the Sub for Santa,” stated Juliano. The organization has dedicated their efforts to help children in the Castle Country area.
The Kid’s Day in the Park is a huge event where local children spend a day in the park with games, food, music and giveaways. “We wouldn’t be able to do that and the Sub for Santa without our merchants who donate to this radio auction coming up, and all the people who listen and purchase the items. That’s where we raise our funds, the second fundraiser coming up, just two months after that would be our Duckie Derby, but without our community, it wouldn’t come together,” said Juliano. The funds earned during the radio auction and duckie derby stay local to help children in our area.
“We go on air about 9:00 am, its always the first Sunday of April, unless Easter falls on that Sunday. We go until we’re done, sometimes its 8:00 pm, sometimes it’s a little bit earlier. All of our money stays right here, 100 percent stays in Castle Country. Everything we make is donated right back, nothing is kept for fees or anything,” said Juliano. The annual radio auction is held on Castle Country Radio stations, KOAL AM750, KARB 98.3FM and KRPX 95.3FM.
Individuals who purchase items from the radio auction are urged to pick up their items at the radio station as soon as possible. “We prefer you come in the day of the auction because after that everybody goes back to work and its hard to have somebody here to collect. So we usually stay here at the radio station for another week after that, and then I move it up to Helper in the Pro Shop in the bowling alley. We try to get it all done as soon as we can, last year we had some items that never did get picked up so I hope that people follow through this year,” explained Juliano. If any individuals would like to be a part of the Kiwanis Club and would like to know more about the club, they may attend their weekly meetings on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm at the Carbon Country Club or contact any current club member.
