The Lady Dinos softball season has been just like everyone else’s, full of weather and field condition cancellations. It seems like everyone except those in the southern area of the state has had issues. Friday, Carbon was on the road in Cedar City to face the Canyon View Falcons for their first region game of the season. Carbon would turn in a gritty performance winning the game 3-2.

Carbon has had a few games canceled on the road and on their home field as well. Hopefully, the weather will start acting more spring-like and we can start getting more games in.

Canyon View entered the game with a 10-2 record against some pretty tough competition, and early on it looked as though the Falcons were on the way to another win. Down 2-1 going into the sixth inning, the Lady Dinos came out looking to make something happen, and Gabby Vasquez did just that by sending a ground ball to left scoring Makayla Scovill to tie it up 2-2.

Holding the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, Carbon came up in the top of the seventh, and Scovill would return the favor by sending a grounder to second that drove in Adri Abeyta to take the lead. The Dinos held Canyon View without a run taking the win 3-2.

Scovill had a great game going 3-5 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Vasquez was 2-5 with an RBI, Reese Ardohain went 2-4 with one RBI and Brielle Sandoval was 3-4.

Haven Bryerly turned in a complete game performance giving up 4 hits with 0 earned runs and eight strikeouts.

Carbon moves to 2-4 on the season and 1-0 in Region 12.

They will spend the remainder of March on the road with games against Juab, Grand, and Manti.

After Spring Break, Carbon will look forward to hosting some games starting on April 12 when they welcome Richfield.
