
The Emery Spartan baseball team played a couple last week and unfortunately came out on the wrong end of a pair of losses. Always a powerhouse, the Spartans faced the Juab Wasps taking an 11-0 loss. They also traveled to Cedar City to close out the season series with Canyon View, taking an 11-1 loss.
The Spartans were coming off a region spilt with Canyon View in Castle Dale with Emery taking game one in dramatic fashion, 7-5, only to turn around and drop game two, 13-4.
First up for the Spartans was the Juab Wasps, one of the top teams every year in 3A. The Wasps made the trip to Castle Dale and took charge immediately.
Emery struggled to find any offense collecting only six hits in the contest. Gannon Ward was 2-3, Easton Nielson and Hayden Abrams each went 1-2, and Peyton Alton and Mason Stilson were both 1-3 in the loss.
The Spartans put four players on the mound, with Kade Larsen taking the loss going two innings giving up five hits and four earned runs. Ward surrendered six hits with four earned and struck out two. Hayden Christiansen gave up four hits three earned, Turner Stoker also got some work in.
The Spartans traveled to Cedar City to take on the Canyon View Falcons in the third and final regular-season meeting between the two teams.
The Falcons used a huge fourth inning, scoring six to put the game out of reach for the Spartans, as Wade Stilson would score the only run in the contest off of a Ward double to center.
Ward and Wade Stilson would go 2-3 and Sean Rogers went 1-3 in the loss.
Trevin Gilbert went 3.2 innings taking the loss on the mound for the Spartans, giving up seven hits and four earned runs. Stoker came ingoing 1.2 surrendering three hits and two earned.
The Spartans are back on the field Monday to take on Grand in double-header action Monday, April 3 in Castle Dale.
