The local 4-H Program is excited to host an event announcing all the fun activities that will take place during the summer months. The event will be held at the Carbon Event Center on May 1 at 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm. Coordinator, DeLayna Barr took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

“We’re inviting all families, not just 4-H families, but all families to come check out what we’ve got going on for the summer. We’re going to have a night of STEM exploration, we’re going to have a Star Lab, where you get to see the consolations. We’re going to have drones, spheres to run through a course. Everything is themed for Out of This World so it will be really fun,” said Barr. There will also be a fundraiser for the 4-H Teen Council who will be selling cotton and popcorn during the event.

Most people think that 4-H is agricultural but it has so much more to offer students. “It’s leadership, its robotics, the biggest thing to me is having a sense of belonging, that there’s a place for everybody in 4-H and that’s really valuable to young kids these days,” said Barr. This is a perfect evening to learn about what the 4-H Program and what it can do for your child during the summer months.

Another event that students can participate in is the Carbon County Contests on May 15 and May 16 from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. “This is our Public Speaking and we’re inviting kids to come and do a demonstration or favorite foods. So demonstrations, its kind of like a YouTube channel. You just come teach us how to do one thing from melty beads to origami, to bath bombs, to saddling a horse – come and show us. We just think that Public Speaking is so important, it’s part of your daily life, and this is your opportunity to come do this in a contest, there will be ribbons and you can even go on to a State Level for these contests,” stated Barr. This is open to students age 8 to 18 years. All you have to do to reserve a spot is to call the USU Extension Office at (435) 636-3233.

The 4-H program is very affordable for all families and is a great way to keep your student occupied during the summer months.  “Let’s talk cost, $10.00 for the year. So if you sign up now it will go till August 31. This will let you into camps, and all the clubs, and those opportunities that we have during the summer. To get on its called https://4h.zsuite.org/ is how you sign up. If you need help call me at (435) 636-3263 and I’ll be glad to walk you through it,” said Barr.
