It’s time for another Price City update and Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Mayor Michael Kourianos who spoke about a Main Street Now 2023 conference held in Boston that city/community officials attended. This conference had to do with Main Street community-building opportunities.

A few years back Price City was chosen along with Brigham City for a Main Street pilot project to beautify or update one’s Main Street. Since that time the city has been working quite hard on making developments to the city’s Main Street such as the addition of the blue city benches, the steel wraparounds on the trash cans, and city banners. “From that we have been developing our Main Street. Trying to rejuvenate those empty buildings and also help those businesses on Main Street change the culture that normally gravitates to a convenience store. Those entrepreneurs that are in business on Main Street, help them become better at selling their products, becoming good business people in the community, listening to the community. That’s what this is all about,” stated Mayor Kourianos. It was at this conference that different learning opportunities were shared with city officials.

The Main Street development has been a great project for our city and it’s been nice that the city has received some funding for the project. “We are truly blessed as Price to be chosen to help rejuvenate. So we have grown from that in the state because Price City lobbied at legislation and they threw some money at making all the Main Streets in Utah unique and better. So we became a pilot project but then we have been an advocate for the state and a pilot project that is being viewed at,” said Mayor Kourianos. The monies are helping develop different projects along Main Street to better accommodate the needs of businesses and patrons.

“Businesses, the main thing, is just working with businesses. I think the common theme is, that you know when businesses come together, they commiserate and they really don’t come up with good solutions. But when they find the uniqueness and that’s the one thing that this whole conference, if I could take anything out of it, was what is downtown Price? What makes it unique? What makes it where people will come off US 6 and walk Main Street,” stated Mayor Kourianos. These are questions that local officials and businesses need to ask themselves. They need to come up with ideas to promote and share our Main Street with visitors and residents.
