USU Eastern is winding down with Spring Semester and looking forward to commencement exercises and Fall Semester 2023. Director of Students, Kevin Hurst stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the details with listeners.

“So we sent over 300 invites to potential graduates. We obviously won’t get 300 to come participate in the commencement ceremony, we wish they all would, but those that do come we’re excited to celebrate their accomplishment and see them on to the next step of their life, whether that’s work or additional credential,” said Hurst. The USU Eastern 2023 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Saturday, Apr. 29 and everyone in the community is invited to attend.

Hurst encourages all students who have met the requirements of graduation to come participate in this wonderful ceremony. “I would encourage anybody who’s earned even an Associate’s Degree to come to commencement, it’s a cool ceremony. I love it, its one of my favorites every year, just to see the accomplishments of our students. They worked so hard to get this credential to earn this degree. Its just kind of a nice feather in their cap to just kind of give them closure,” said Hurst. Commencement will not require tickets.  At this time, there are no restrictions on the number of family/friends who can attend.

Admission applications are currently being accepted for the 2023-2024 academic school year. This year has already shown great growth in enrollment as Hurst explains, “From 2021 to 2022, we were up 70 applications. From 2022 to this year, we’re up an additional 100 so we’re at 517 applications and of those applications we have 133 confirmed. Which means they’ve paid their enrollment deposit and they pretty much have told us we’re coming to Eastern.” Officials predict that next year will be a great year for new and returning students. Potential Students can begin signing up for Fall Semester 2023 courses on April 14 at the one-stop Student Support Services.

USU Eastern is hosting an Eagle Fit Competition on Saturday, Apr. 15 at 10:00 am to 2:00 pm inside the BDAC and this competition is open to the entire community. “So there’s different categories, different age groups, men’s and women’s competitions. There is a charge of $15.00 for 12 and up or $5.00 if your under 12. But there will be prizes, everybody gets a t-shirt,” said Hurst. All proceeds earned from the event will go to the Family Support & Children’s Justice Center.
