The USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about their current art exhibit and about upcoming events that will be taking place at the museum.

“We’re starting to see both our Spring Break uptick and our school trips. If you’re part of a school or preschool group in the area and you want to come down and either do a self-guided or have some of our staff give you a guided tour. We’re happy to do that, we provide that free of charge to any sort of school or youth group that’s in our area. You just have to call ahead and make prearrangements so we know when to expect you and be prepared to either give you a tour directly or again, if you rather just come in and do your own self-guided tour, that’s also an option,” said Museum Director, Dr. Tim Riley. Museum officials look forward to having the museum full of students who are wanting to learn more about the history of dinosaurs.

Not only are there dinosaurs to experience at the museum but also art as there is a community art show taking place right now. “It’s a Castle Country Community Art Show and that opened up last month and it will be there till May 8. This is a great opportunity to come see some of the incredible local talent and regional talent of artists in our area. Some of the pieces are for sale, you’re welcome to purchase them. We’ll either ship them or you can pick them up at the end of the show. Others are not but you know it’s a great way to come and see just how many talented arts there are. There’s everything from painting and photographs to weavings and ceramics and even some other sculpture elements and wood working. So it’s a really great way to see just how talented our community are,” said Dr. Riley. This show is an opportunity for all artists to help celebrate our local culture and engage with the broad community of Prehistoric Museum visitors.

The museum is helping host a Bringing War Home project that is a larger statewide project that they will be assisting with. “It’s based on a book by Tim O’Brien called The Things That They Carried. That’s specifically about what we might call the material culture of war. By this we don’t mean the requisitions and ammo or things like that, but the personal items that people both carried with them into war. Photos of their loved ones, letters, religious tacks, a special coin, as well as souvenirs that they acquired during their service,” said Dr. Riley.  This will take place on Saturday, April 15 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Event officials would love to have individuals bring in their items and share their stories with them.
