The USU Eastern Gallery East is excited to be hosting its last exhibit of the year the Annual Juried Student Art Show which will run from Apr. 25 through May 5. Associate Professor of Art, Noel Carmack took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.
“Its really a nice capstone to our year. It’s not just my students of course, its my colleague, Chris Kanyusik, who teaches ceramics and sculpture, and my other colleague, Jason Huntzinger, who teaches our photography classes. We like to encourage our students to submit something, usually their best work. This show is a time where we can really showcase the work of all of our students over the past year,” stated Carmack. This venue is a way for students to express their creativity and show what they have made with fellow students, faculty/staff and the public.
Sometimes gathering the pieces for the art show can be a bit hectic. “Unfortunately, some of them are kind of modest, and self-deprecating and they don’t think their work is good enough to put in the show, we try to carouse them, do some arm twisting. Sometimes it requires we go back and contact our students from last semester, of course some of them of either moved on or have graduated, a lot of times they’ll take their work home. So we have to encourage them to bring that work back and let it show in our exhibit for a couple of weeks,” explained Carmack. The pieces that will be on display will be photos, sculptures, paintings, and drawings. Awards will be given for the most deserving entries.
The Annual Juried Student Art Show will be exhibited at Gallery East from Apr. 25 through May 5, 2023. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 4, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Students, family, and interested public are welcome to attend. The gallery is free and open to the public during the academic year.
