This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary where Principal Connie Todachinnie took time to speak over the telephone about upcoming field trips, end of year testing and Parent Teacher Organization.
The school year is winding down which means the school is planning on several
year-end field trips for their students. “So our end of the year field trip this year we’re going to go to the Cleveland-Llyod Dinosaur Quarry. I’ve never been out there; I don’t think a lot of our kids have been out there. We’re really excited to go out there and then after we spend some time out there, we’re going to go watch a movie. It’s a little too cold for swimming still so we’re going to go into Price and watch Puss n’ Boots,” said Principal Todachinnie. Other activities planned for certain grades is to attend a Bee’s Baseball game, host fourth-grade rendezvous, farm day for third graders, as well as an activity for conservation day.
Before all the fun takes place, there is end of the year testing that must take place. “We started part of it, because our fifth grade, they get to take four tests, so they’ve already started theirs and the rest of the testing will start next week. As far as our state testing, our RISE assessments, as far as our reading and our math assessments also those will start next week with the lower grades as well. But the kids are doing well, they really are. A lot of them have really buckled down and got in to it and we’re seeing some really good things come out of our students,” said Principal Todachinnie. It’s important for parents to encourage their students to get plenty of rest and attend school on the scheduled testing days.
The school is very proud of their Parent Teacher Organization and how hard they have worked this year to support the school and its students. “So we’ve had a really good PTO for the last two years and they’re phenomenal. We just finished a fundraiser where they brought in close to $4,000.00. That’s all going to go back to the school and the kids and it’s just phenomenal. Its not just their fundraising efforts its what they do for our kids and our school,” said Principal Todachinnie. The PTO works hard to make sure the students have fun activities throughout the year.
