It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about flood mitigation, recognizing the City of Green River for a job well done and funding for Boys State. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.
With the weather warming up there are many residents that are concerned with the possibility of flooding in our area. “So in Commission Meeting we talked a little bit about, well we’re going to apply for a grant to help control Russian Olives and we will have a lot of mosquitos this year. So we want to make sure that we can help control those for the public. Then with the sandbags, with the water coming off the mountain, we were able to get a couple of sandbag machines for flood preparation. These machines will help, I think they fill 20 bags at a time. So it will be really nice to quickly sandbag as needed throughout the year and the spring,” stated Commissioner Leonard. If you have had flooding issues in the past its not a bad idea to get on top it now instead of when it’s too late. Sandbags are made available by the county and at the Sheriff’s Department.
As with every interview with Commissioner Leonard, he likes to highlight a county department for a job well done and this time around he chose to highlight the City of Green River. “So Green River City and then we want to give a shout-out to the Event Coordinator who has put on those three big events. Three huge events in the last month have brought a lot of people to our community, into Green River and it’s just a lot of work to put those events on. We just wanted to give them a shout-out on the work that they’ve done,” said Commissioner Leonard. At the last Commission Meeting, they approved some requests for donations to help local students. “We have four high school boys that want to go to Boys State. So Boys State is training where they teach these boys government process, what if economic or what job opportunities are out there in government. So we always want to support those that want to learn about government and how things function in government. So we were able to donate a little bit to those boys to go to Boys State,” said Leonard. This is a great opportunity for the students to represent Emery County.
The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
