Randall Ernest Jones, 76, of Huntington passed away peacefully at Castleview Hospital In Price, Utah on April 21, 2023.
He was born in his grandparents’ home in Cleveland, Utah on March 15, 1947, to Blake L. and Wilda Ann Jensen Jones. He married Barbra Ogden on June 6, 1969, in the Manti LDS Temple.
Randy attended schools in Emery County, graduating from Emery High, after which he served honorably in the Texas LDS Mission. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education from Utah State University. Randy was a true farmer—loving all things to do with agriculture, including tending water, bottle feeding bummer animals, delivering baby pigs and calves, repairing farm machinery and growing some of the best crops in the valley. Randy loved horses and loved being a member of the Huntington Junior and Senior Riding Clubs.
As a youth Randy developed a true love for the FFA organization, which he shared with all of his children and grandchildren as he served on the first FFA Alumni Board for the Emery FFA Chapter. He had many fond memories of trips, conventions, contests, etc. with the FFA members. He served two terms as president of the USU College of Agriculture Alumni Association. Randy served on the Emery County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for many years and served on the Castle Valley Co-Op Board of Directors. He was also a volunteer 4-H leader and served at Huntington Heritage Days and at the Castle Valley Pageant Pioneer Village. Randy had a masterful mechanical mind. He loved repairing farm machinery and was a “baler whisperer.” Professionally, he worked as an underground coal mine mechanic and also worked in above ground mining repair facilities.
He is survived and loved by his wife, Barbra; daughters, Cassie Jo (Daniel) Thatcher, Cierra Lyn Jones; daughter in-law, Marilyn (Erik) Wolford; beloved grandchildren, Austyn (Kady) Harris, Jakob Harris, Jessyka Harris, Jayson Harris, Dani Jo Thatcher, Deri Lee Thatcher, Dazi Mae Thatcher, Devlin Richard Thatcher; great-grandson, Kamden Harris; brother, Derk Jones; sister, Kelly Olsen; and sisters-in-law, Margo Jones, Julie Jones and Verna Dean Ashton.
Preceded in death by his parents; sons, Clynn K., Randall Cade and Caleb Blake Jones; daughter-in-law, Mechele Ellis Jones; brother, LaNae Jones; nephew, Elam Jones; brother-in-law, Wayne Olsen; and his grandparents and in-laws.
