The Carbon County Senior Center is a great place to be as they’re always keeping their folks busy with the numerous activities and events. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Director, Rebecca Taylor to get all the details.

The Carbon County Senior Center is excited to be teaming up with USU Extension to host a cooking class. “We’ve partnered with USU Extension and they’re going to come in and do a Healthy Eating Class. So we may as well start the summer out right and learn how to use those fresh vegetables, we’re all going to start growing. Anyway, they’re going to do a Healthy Eating Class on Monday, May 1 at 1:00 pm. It’s for all seniors in our area, its just there at the Senior Center in the classroom. We would love for you to come, you don’t really need to let us know, just show up, and I think it will be about an hour, so come and enjoy that next Monday,” said Taylor. This is a free course for local seniors to learn how to prepare healthy and tasty meals.

All seniors in the area are invited to the Cinco De Mayor Dance on Friday, May 5 at 6:00 pm.  “We have our Cinco De Mayo Party which is going to be blast. We are planning for that, its actually on the 5th of May – Friday, May 5 it will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Our busses will be running for those seniors who would like a ride, that one, you do need to call us in advance so we can get you on the list for the busses. They’ll run back and forth between here and Helper, and Wellington, and where ever you may be. Come on in, we’re going to have a band, we’re going to dance, we’re going to eat, so its just going to be a lot of fun,” explained Taylor. Seniors are invited to bring their family with them to the celebration. The dance will take place at the Senior Center at 418 South Fairgrounds Way.

“Then we have our Mother’s Day lunch it’s coming up on Thursday the 11th. We’re having some special musical numbers that day, David Prettyman and Raymond Madrid are going to come and sing for us. We have a special dinner planned that day, yummy potatoes etc. So that will be a fun day to join us for lunch at the Senior Center, again Mother’s Day, May 11. If you would like to come with your mother, if you’re not 60, you can still come out to the Senior Center, you’re welcome to come out. You just have to pay for your meal, it’s a little more than your senior price, but not a lot just $6.00 and you can eat there with your mom, get to know some of her friends and it will be a fun thing to do for Mother’s Day,” said Taylor.

All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter that is readily available at the center or by calling (435) 636-3202.
