This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary and Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss testing, Teacher Appreciation, and the Knights Festival.
“We just barely started our RISE testing; we started in fourth grade and I know the teachers have worked really hard this year in preparing the students. We’ve started that state testing so that will be going and taking place over the next three weeks. So the state testing we are starting and then we also do our own end-of-the-year testing as well. So in May, the end of May, we will have all that data that we compile and then look at our strengths and weaknesses to guide us in our instruction and moving forward,” said Principal Fluckey. She also mentioned the importance of attending school the next few weeks as testing is being conducted. Parents should make sure that their students are getting adequate rest at night so that they can perform the following day.
The school will be hosting Teacher Appreciation Week which will begin on May 8. “So May 8 is the week of Teacher Appreciation Week and we celebrate our teachers – teachers and our staff. Again, we could not do, what we do, without all of our teachers and our classified staff that go above and beyond to make this a great place for students,” said Principal Fluckey. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to show their appreciation to their teachers for all the hard work they have done throughout the school year.
Castle Heights is excited to be hosting a Knights Festival which is a reward for reading. “Students earn tokens or coins to go to this festival by reading, completing reading minutes and reading challenges. Each grade level will be setting up booths that students can use tokens or coins to participate in. So it’s been a very fun activity that has been created by our Instructional Coach, Renee Pressett. The kids are really reading and working hard to earn these coins so that they can participate in this activity here at the school,” said Principal Fluckey. Further details about the Knights Festival will be sent home with students as the date approaches.
