The Lady Dinos had already locked up the Region 12 title when they traveled to Richfield on Thursday, but with a win Carbon would end the region schedule undefeated. A seven run first went a long way to solidify that 8-0 league mark, and the Dinos added eight more runs taking the 15-0 win in five.
With the RPI removed we will now need to wait until Wednesday to see where they will land in the playoffs. With a pair of games remaining on the schedule, Carbon could either help or hurt their cause.
Carbon was all over the Wildcats in the first putting up seven runs, scoring four of them with two outs on the scoreboard. With the score already 4-0, Taylor Secor hit a grounder to the second basemen reaching on an error, and allowing Kylan Sorenson ans Adri Abeyta to score.
Gabby Vasquez started out the second inning with a solo homer to center field. The Dinos would add another pair of runs to push the the score to 10-0 headed in to the bottom half of the inning.
Haven Byerly registered three of her six strike outs in the bottom of the second as she faced three Wildcats and sat them all down. Moving to the top of the fifth Vasquez would step up to the plate, with Scovill on second and sent yet another over the right field fence.
Scovill came in to finish off the last few innings, and kept the pressure on Richfield, as Carbon finished out the region season undefeated with a 15-0 win.
Vasquez was 3-4 with a pair of home runs, three RBI’s and three runs scored. Sorensen had a 3-3 day at the plate with a pair of RBI’s and two runs scored and Scovill was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Byerly got the start going two innings and struck out six. Scovill came in with three innings left, giving up one hit and struck out four.
The Lady Dinos get back on the field Friday when they travel to take on the Juan Diego Soaring Eagle, and then wrap up the season on Tuesday on the road at Union.
On May 3, The Utah High School Activities Association will release the final RPI of the season showing us where and who the Dinos will play starting on May 6, when the playoffs begin.
