A local band in Carbon County called Variant X is excited to be giving back to the community by hosting a Concert Food Drive Fundraiser on Saturday, May 20 at 7:00 pm at the Carbon High School Auditorium. Admission in to the concert is non-perishable food items that will benefit the Carbon County Food Bank.

“We’ve been doing this on and off in various forms and a bunch of different bands probably for the last 25 years. In this band we probably play the last five decades of rock and roll, all kinds of various genres of music, and we are very happy to be back out, get our feet wet with our new singer Wes, and just do some good,” said Guitarist, Brian Sherman. The band is excited to perform for the community while helping to restock the shelves of the Carbon County Food Bank.

There are five members that make up the Variant X band. “Our lead vocalist is Wes Thompson, he’s well known in the community, he’s a with the Carbon Education System, so I’m sure a lot of our kids familiar with him. Then the other guitarist in the band is Quenten Kirkwood, he and I have played on and off for the last 20 years like I said in various acts. Our bass player is well known, he’s played in dozens of bands around here he’s name is Steve Gutierrez. Once again, our drummer, Larry McKinnon, probably a dozen bands under his belt. We’re not new to this, so this is a well-oiled machine, we’re having a lot of fun with it,” said Sherman. The band has played around the area and hopes the community will come out for this free concert.

Carl Potter’s Pro Sound will provide a sound system, donating his time during the concert. “The addition of Carl Potter involving him we’re looking at a truly pro event. I mean this is state-of-the-art equipment, all of our equipment is top-notch. I believe that people will come in, no matter what generation you’re from, you’re going to hear something that you recognize. Once again, we’ve worked incredibly hard to make this as professional and polished as we possibly can,” said Sherman.
