The Carbon Dino baseball team has already locked up the Region 12 title and will more likely than not be hosting a pod site in the state playoffs when the final rankings come out on Wednesday. Monday they had one game left on the regular season schedule with Union, and unfortunately, they were unable to collect their 17th win of the season, falling 6-2.
The Dinos end their regular season 16-5 with an 11-1 mark in league play. On Wednesday the Utah High School Activities Association will release the final RPI rankings and the bracket for the 3A State Baseball Championships.
In the contest with Union, the Dinos couldn’t find any offense, only collecting a pair of runs in the third, and defensively they were sunk by a big third from Union, where they really put the game away, scoring five in the inning.
For the Dinos, Ridge Nelson had a 1-4 day at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Michael Vigil had an RBI and Chet Anderson earned a run.
Nelson got the start on the mound for Carbon going 2.2 and surrendering five hits an earned run and struck out four. Stockton Kennedy came in to go 3.1 with three strikeouts.
Wednesday with the bracket release, Carbon will know who, when, and where they will be playing. When the RPI was last visible Carbon held the No. 2 spot, and with the loss to Union, it shouldn’t do too much to that number.
If Carbon lands in the top four, they will host a pod site this weekend.
