The Annual Castle Country Rock, Fossil, Mineral Show is set to take place on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. This is free and open to public. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Event Coordinator, Patrick Braun about all the show’s details.

This is a show that started about 16 years ago from an instructor whose students wanted to have a show to share their unique rocks. “At the time I was teaching a silversmithing class at the college when it was still called C.E.U. and a couple of us said, man, we really need a show in Price. They had a show in Price years ago that was actually held at the National Guard Armory and when that disbanded there were no more shows. So this show is my baby, so sixteen years ago we created the show and its been going strong every since,” said Braun. The show has been a long-standing tradition in the Carbon County area. The free annual event is held each year out at the Carbon County Event Center at 450 South Fairgrounds Road in Price.

In recent years the show has grown with more vendors and more guests coming to see the rocks, fossils, and minerals. “You know all of the vendors are great, they’re just there to help share their knowledge and point people in the right direction. They love talking about what they do, they’re pretty passionate about it. It’s fun to see that. So we’ve had repeat customers, I guess you’d say, that have been with us from day one that have showed up every year to the show and then we always see new faces, and they’re always welcomed. Its just fun to all get together and be able to talk about something we are all passionate about,” stated Braun.

Guests will have an opportunity to speak with the vendors about their displays, plus observe several demonstrations throughout the show. “We have a lot of people that come that make their own jewelry. Maybe they’re looking for beads or gemstones or tips on how to make jewelry, so they’ll come and buy that. We have fossil collectors or mineral collectors that come. I have a vendor this year that I know personally, that I’ve talk to that is bringing some used equipment. So people that find their treasure, want to cut it open or polish it, we’ve got some used equipment for sale this year that people can buy,” said Braun. There will be a silent auction on both days so the winners will be announced on Saturday evening.
