Kurt Valdean Oveson, 66, passed away on May 1st, 2023, surrounded by his children in his daughter’s home in Huntington, Utah. Kurt was born the oldest son of Valdean and Isabelle Oveson on August 27th, 1956. He was the fourth child of 6 children. As a young child, Kurt’s family lived in several towns throughout Emery County but eventually settled in Huntington. He graduated Emery High School in 1974 and married Raylene Erickson on September 1st, 1978, surrounded by family and friends. In 1979 they had their first child Kori Rae. Three years later, they welcomed their second child, Mandi Marie; after another three years, Kurt finally received his baby boy Michael Kurt. Kurt and Raylene later divorced. He worked hard to ensure that his kids were cared for and felt loved every day. Kurt was incredibly proud of his kids. He loved to brag on Michael with his many stories, some true, some untrue. Kurt worked as a journeyman lineman for Rocky Mountain Power for 33 years. Being a lineman was Kurt’s passion, and he was very proud of his work. Even after retirement, he loved to tell stories of the people he worked with and the jobs he had been on. This is where he built many friendships that lasted a lifetime. Kurt wore many titles, son, brother, uncle, dad, grandpa, and his newest and favorite, grandpa great! Being a grandpa came naturally; he loved to tease his grandchildren. He couldn’t wait to say, “Come here so I can kick your butt.” The kids became so used to this they would run over and turn around so that he could give them a quick little boot. Kurt claimed to be an avid hunter, but in reality, he loved being on the mountain and being with his family and friends. He rarely filled his tag but always enjoyed being part of the experience.
Kurt is survived by Kori (Clint) Oveson of Huntington, Mandi (Marty) Potter of Huntington, Michael (Jessica) Oveson of Huntington; his fifteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter; sister, Jaqualine Bunnel, sister, Madeline (Bob); sister-in-law Corrine Oveson; brother, Kris Oveson.
Kurt is preceded in death by his parents, Valdean and Isabelle Oveson; sister, Annette Oveson; brother Kelly Oveson, and best hunting buddy, Mark Cornett.
Friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Kurt’s life the way he would want to be remembered, as a man with a rough exterior yet a huge caring heart that dwelt beneath. Services will be held at Millers Landing (123 North Main Street/Mitchell Funeral Home) in Huntington at 11:00 am on Friday, May 5th. Arrangements under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are welcome to share memories at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
