The final RPI rankings came out Wednesday for 3A baseball, and the Carbon Dinos earned the No.2 spot after ending the season 16-5 and claiming the Region 12 title. The Emery Spartans 11-13 and 5-7 claimed the No.8.

The Spartans played their last regular season game last Thursday taking a loss from the No. 1 overall in 3A the Juab Wasps. They will now travel to Nephi, the home of the Wasps to face No. 9 Summit Academy. A win and they will move on to face the winner of Juab/Grand/Judge Memorial (Grand and Judge will face each other in a play-in game on Friday, May 5).  A loss sends them into the lower bracket and then they would have to fight their way back, knowing that they couldn’t lose again the rest of the way.

Carbon finished out the regular season with a loss to Union, 6-2. Finishing with the No.2 seed means Carbon will play their first two games at home. Carbon will face the winner of Fridays play-in game between Morgan and North Sanpete at 11:00 on Saturday. A win and they will advance to play the winner of the Ogden/Grantsville match-up, a loss would send them to the lower bracket forcing them to play perfect baseball the rest of the tournament.

The playoffs continue until a champion will be crowned on May 13 at Kearns High School.
