The Richfield Wildcats clinched the Region 12 championship in the final meet of the regular season, topping both Carbon and Emery, Tuesday night at the Palisades Golf Course in Sterling.

Entering the region finale with a perfect league mark, the Wildcats were once again the dominant team as they finished with a team score of 356. Carbon followed in a distant second with a 427 topping third place Emery by 18-strokes. Canyon View rounded out the field of four as they finished with a 445.

Carley West paced the Dinos with a low score of 97, solidifying seventh place individually in the highly competitive region. Kaylynn Black was next with a 109, while Savanna Rasmussen finished with a 110. Grace Simms completed the team scoring with a 111.

Locking up second place in the division, the Dinos clinched a spot in the season ending state championship tournament on May 10 and 11 at the Glendale Course in Salt Lake City.

While West delivered the highest individual finish for the final region standings with a 94.5 average, both Rasmussen and Simms completed solid seasons to give Carbon a potent second and third punch. Rasmussen’s region average ended at 100.5, giving her a 10th place finish. Simms was right behind in 11th with a final average of 101.5.

Kimber Gilbert continued to be the top golfer for the Lady Spartans as she finished with a 98, locking up eighth place overall in Region-12 with a final average of 94.7 Cheyenne Bingham was second on the team Tuesday afternoon as she fired a 109. Aspen Jensen was third with a 117, followed by Kirsten Beagley’s 121.

Emery’s final team average sits at 413.82, placing them 10th overall in the 3A classification, which is good enough to advance to the state tournament. Emery sits one stroke above 11th place South Summit and two better than 12th place Delta.

All qualifying teams will take the rest of the week off in preparation for next week’s season finale. The official pairings and tee times for the state tournament will be released Friday morning.
