
The Lady Dinos closed out their regular season on Tuesday with a 9-3 win over Union in Roosevelt, finishing at 15-6. Wednesday morning the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI rankings and the bracket for the 3A State Softball Championships that will begin this weekend.
Carbon made it through the Region 12 schedule undefeated with a perfect 8-0 record. The successful season means that Carbon will be home for the first round of the playoffs this weekend.
In the contest with Union, Carbon used a big fifth inning to close out the Cougars. With the score 3-2 Union, Brielle Sandoval singled to center field driving in Shayla Penovich and Haven Byerly putting the Dinos up 4-2. Later in the inning, with Adri Abeyta and Annie McGinnis on base, Makaykla Scovill sent a home run over the right field fence to put Carbon up 9-3, The Lady Dinos held on for the win, bringing the regular part of the season schedule to an end.
Scovill went 4-5 adding three RBI’s and two runs scored. Sandoval was 3-4 and she earned a pair of RBI’s and one run scored. Kylan Sorenson was 2-4 with an RBI and one run.
On the mound it was Haven Byerly who went 3.0 innings with two earned, striking out five and Scovill earned the win, going four, surrendering two hits and striking out three.
Wednesday the final RPI rankings for 3A were released along with the bracket for the State Softball Championships that will begin this Saturday.
Carbon finished in the No. 4 spot, which means they will host a pod starting this Saturday. The Lady Dinos will face the No 13 American Leadership Academy Patriots at the Carbon County Softball Complex at 11:00, a win in that game means they will take on the winner of the Providence Hall/Manti, that game would be played Thursday May 11 at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex.
A loss and they would play the losing team of the match-up, that game would take place in Price Saturday at 4:00
