derby-event

The Soroptimist International of Price is excited to host their Derby Day Fundraiser on Saturday, May 6 at 3:00 pm at the Carbon Country Club Ballroom. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with members of the organization to get all the details.

There will be live music, appetizers and prize drawings, plus a live viewing of the 149th Derby.  “We will also have awards, so everybody come dressed up, ladies’ best hat, most dapper man, best dressed couple, it’s going to be really fun. We’re going to actually have the race viewed live on a screen and when the big race is available, we’ll kind of have our focus towards the screen,” said Jennifer Warner. Organizers are encouraging derby attire, so you can go as wild as you want or as calm as you want to go. Winners of the costume contests will be chosen by guests that attend the event.

Tickets are currently on sale for the event and there is a limit to the amount of folks that can attend. “They are $35.00. They can message us on Facebook or they can call me directly if they would like to purchase directly. My phone number is (435) 650-9819,” said Warner. Tickets are selling fast and again, seating is limited.

Soroptimist International of Price is a great organization that assists women and girls in the community. “We’ve been around in our community for 59 years. We were originally chartered by Helen Oliveto Smith and its one of the longest running service organizations in our community. Our focus is to help women and girls through economic empowerment through education. So our focus is looking for opportunities within the community to assist women and girls,” explained Terry Willis. Other projects that the Soroptimist group have helped with in the past have been the East Carbon Clinic and Eastern Utah Women’s Health Clinic.
