It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about Junior Entrepreneur Program, Castle Valley Pageant, and recognize the Water District for a job well done. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.
Things are going very well in Emery County as the residents are enjoying the sunshine we’ve had in recent days. “You know what, the sun is shining and I’ve mentioned this before, when you can drive around town and see kids out playing, and listening to the crack of the bat from the baseball going on, soccer players. It’s nice to see Spring come and people getting out of their homes and serving each other. So yea, its cool to see, the sun come out and the people out of their homes,” said Leonard. Spring time is definitely in the air in Emery County.
The Junior Entrepreneur Program held a Shark Tank Competition where the students presented their products to a panel of judges. “They had a Shark Tank last week. Some pretty amazing judges that went through the Juniors business plans, looked at their product, and they were able to fund over 17 businesses at over $7,800.00. The cool thing about it, is we get to have these Junior Entrepreneurs at our county fair and at other events that they see fit that might fit their product. Amazing program,” explained Leonard. The types of business that the Juniors have come up with have to do with service, jewelry, raising chickens and a snow shake. Be sure to keep an eye out for the Juniors at upcoming community events.
The county recently received a professional video of the Castle Valley Pageant filmed back in 2008. This pageant was a big part of the Emery County summer celebrations and featured numerous residents. County Officials are planning to share the movie during the Emery County Fair. “That was the last year that Montell Seely was in the pageant before he passed away. So we’re excited to show that the Thursday evening, so the county fair is the last weekend in July, so it will be that last Thursday in July at the auditorium at the high school. We’ll show that Castle Valley Pageant, it meant a lot to our community for a lot of years and when it went away, it went away. I don’t think many of us have been able to see the pageant for a lot of years. So it was amazing to get the recording and that we can show,” said Leonard. Further details about the movie event will be shared as the Emery County Fair approaches.
As with all his interviews, Leonard wanted to shine a spotlight on a county department for a job well done. “Just wanted to highlight our Water District and the work that they are doing right now to manage the water, to keep our community sustainable. Just want to give them a lot of credit for what they are doing right now and the stress its got to have to make sure that we mitigate flooding, as well as, keep as much water as we can to sustain our lively hoods here in Emery County,” stated Leonard. When you see the folks from the Water District be sure to thank them for a job well done.
The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
