Rozlyn Stowe felt like she could do better in the 800 meters after breaking a school record on April 29, just six days later she was in Provo at the PACS BYU Invitational where she would claim another record-breaking her previous record. The girl’s sprint relay team also broke a school record that has been standing since 1980. Out of 37 girls teams from around the region the Lady Dinos claimed a tie for fifth, and out of 42 teams on the boy’s side Carbon landed in the 14 spot.

Juan Diego earned the top prize on the girl’s side, with North Sevier taking second. Morgan, and Grand landed in third and fourth, and Union and Carbon tied for fifth with 34 points.

Stowe claimed first in the 800 by breaking her previous school record of 2:16.68 turning in a time of 2:14.52. Stowe and her teammates weren’t done there, Mia Crompton, Kinlee Lewis, Gianna White, and Stowe broke one of the longest-standing track records at Carbon High turning in a second-place time of 4:15.84. Stowe would go on to claim a sixth-place finish in the 1600 and seventh in the 3200. The 4 x 100 team of Crompton, Lewis, Mclain Lowe, and Jordan Shorts earned a third-place finish.

In field events, Haley Garrish earned fourth place in the discus.

The team from Sugar-Salem Idaho earned the top spot on the boy’s side of the track with Evanston Wyoming in second. Juab, Union, and Richfield made up the rest of the top five. The Carbon boys came in 14.

In the sprint medley, Mason Vasquez, Eric Holt, Easton Humes and Braxton Ware ran to a third place finish. The 4 x 400 team of Vasquez, Ware, Humes and Garrett Black finished in ninth.  Humes earned a third place finish in the 400.

Traxton Jewkes was able to jump his way to a sixth place finish in the high jump for the Dinos.

Carbon travels to Cedar City Wednesday and Thursday to compete in the Region 12 Championships, they will follow that up with the State Track and Field Championships next Thursday and Friday at BYU.
