The Green River Gun Club, Green River Medical Center, and Green River Fire Department have decided to come together to honor first responders, Stephen Mayall & Shawn O’Keefe with a benefit luncheon and raffle at the Green River Senior Center. Tragically, both individuals passed away in a four-wheeling accident in April and the town of Green River is such a close-knit community that they wanted to offer this fundraiser to benefit the children of the two men.
“Shawn O’Keefe he is a retired Air Force Veteran, he moved back to Green River about two years ago, starting O’Keefe’s Lube. He ran a business out of here, he has two children, and wife named Shelby; they’re a great family. Then you had Stephen Mayall he was married to Alycia and they had three step-children or he had three step-children with her and he left behind three of his own children,” stated Event Representative, Mandi Dinkins. The event organizers want to give back to the children of the men who gave so much to the community by being a firefighter and an EMT.
There will be a community wide wellness event taking place during the fundraiser luncheon so there will be several fun activities taking place. “Yes, we ended up teaming up with also the Green River Medical Center. With the medical center we have free screenings, we have bouncy houses for the kids, which is all free. They’re holding free fitness classes. We also have cornhole that’s going on. We’re doing an opportunity drawing. We have a lunch that you can do a $5.00 plate or a $10.00 plate. That’s followed by a kids .22 shoot and an adult shoot down there at our gun range,” stated Dinkins. The shooting event will take place at 2:00 pm, followed by trap shoot at 3:00 pm both taking place at the Green River Sports Park.
The businesses from around the surrounding area have really stepped up and donated some great prizes to the opportunity drawing. “So honestly, the outpour of the community that came forward and all the businesses, I’ve never been more touched in my life. So we got a trip a sunset flight for two from Redtail Aviation. We also got 200 gallons of propane from AmeriGas. We have a jump from Skydive Moab and then Holiday River Expeditions they also did a trip for up to 10 people, a day trip for up to 10 down the Green River,” said Dinkins. There are still tickets available for the opportunity drawing, it’s $5.00 per ticket or three tickets for $10.00.
