Creekview Elementary was highlighted on this week’s Carbon School District weekly update so Principal Keith Palmer stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss what’s been taking place at the school.
“It’s been a good year, we just finished up reading, and we’ve grown. We’re probably going to hit about 64 percent, last year we were 62 percent so we’re pleased with that and things are going well. Our focus has been building connections with kids and we’re going to continue that but also focusing on trying to help kids to leave behind what’s going on in their lives. When they walk in that door, we want them to know that they can leave behind these other issues and just come to school and that’s going to be a lot of what we’re working on through the summer to be ready to do that,” said Principal Palmer. Overall, the 2022-2023 academic school year has been great for all students.
A group of students recently participated in the national archery competition held in Sandy and Creekview Elementary has they’re very own champion archer, Hunter Cowley that did very well. “We just wrapped up our archery season so they went to Western Nationals, as we said a couple of weeks ago, a few weeks before that, State. So Hunter is a two-time State Champion in the elementary division, and he also was the Individual Champion at Western Nationals for elementary boys, probably all of elementary. I think he was fifth or sixth of all of them, I mean any age, he did quite amazing out of 300 I think he shot a 292 out of 300, which is incredible,” said Principal Palmer. Cowley will be moving on to Mont Harmon Middle School next year, but first he will compete at the World Competition taking place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in June.
The fifth graders are now finishing up their RISE testing and they will soon be graduating to move on to middle school. “So our fifth grade is taking their last test this week, they still have the math RISE test to take. Then once that is over, its really is real, especially for those fifth grade they are ready to go on. I really love these fifth graders, they are great kids, so they’ve set good examples to those around them, we’ll miss them,” said Principal Palmer.
