The USU Extension Office – Carbon County is gearing up for their summer 4-H programs and are inviting children to come participate in the summer clubs. Coordinator, DeLayna Barr stopped by Castle Country Radio to share all the wonderful details of the summer programs.
If you have children that would like to learn the basics of sewing there will be a class starting on May 22. “It’s a Beginning Sewing Club and they’re going to start off with basic knowledge of your machine and then work up from making drawstring bags, to pin cushions, to even a shorts and pillowcases,” said Barr. There is a small fee for this course which is $5.00 to help cover course costs.
There is also a course that teaches STEM curriculum that will begin on May 30, with a small fee associated with it. “Try Team STEM, these are teenagers that have been to workshops to learn how to teach STEM to kids and it’s a Alice In Wonderland theme this year and its $7.00,” said Barr. Students will explore STEM concepts and the club will be held at Washington Park. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math. Other courses being offered for the summer months include Try Team Horse, Tennis, Wonders of Wizarding World, Entrepreneur, Healthy Snack & Dance, Virtual 3-D Printing, Lego EV3 Robotics and Dungeons & Dragons.
There will also be a course called Junior Master Gardeners Club and a Drone Day Camp. “We have Junior Master Gardeners and they are incredible in what they are learning, I need to take this club, and it is $30.00 but it goes until the end of October, and they have a really great leader. Drones, we’re going to do another Day Camp for drones. It is $60.00 but you get a drone and chuck glider, and a full day of learning how to run your drones, all the aviation and even career searching for that,” stated Barr. Students that are age 10 to 12 are invited to participate in the Drone Course only if they are accompanied by an adult.
