Jay Dean Sillitoe, age 85, of Helper, Utah passed away in Price, Utah on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Jay was born to Joseph and Leila Sillitoe on March 23, 1938 in Castle Gate, Utah. He was the fourth child and the baby of the family. He had a fun childhood with the “Good Ole Gang.” They would go on adventures throughout the Castle Gate mountains; and trouble always seemed to follow them.

He married a farm girl, Phyllis Frandsen on March 31, 1957. They were sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on April 1, 1960. They had four children, Kelly, Alan, Gary, and Diane.

He started working for Utah Power & Light at the age of 19, and he retired from there at the age of 49. He was busier in retirement with his rentals, being the principal of “Little Learners Preschool,” and as a Helper City council member. Jay was the first out when it snowed. He plowed more snow than the city.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the Manti-La Sal Range where he elk hunted with the “Sillitoe Hunting Group.” He worked his way to being the top man of the hunting group (Road Hunter). He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work and the enjoyment of the outdoors.

Jay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a faithful servant of the Lord; always trying to help others who needed it. He was an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple for three and a half years and served in the Family History Center for 13 years.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Greener, Sandy, UT, Alan (Teri) Sillitoe, Helper, UT, and Diane Anderson, Spanish Fork, UT; sister, Gay (Grant) Howell, Helper, UT; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Jay is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Sillitoe; parents, Joseph and Leila Nay Sillitoe; brothers, Delroy and Wayne Sillitoe; son, Gary Sillitoe; and granddaughter, Brenda Greener May.
