The American Legion will be hosting Memorial Day Services in all the local cemeteries on Monday, May 29 beginning at 8:00 am. Commander, Les Schulz took time to stop by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

The organization will be taking a few days before the Memorial Day holiday to decorate Veterans graves. “We starting about 8:00 am – 8:15 am in Helper on Thursday, which is a May 25. The Chaplain from the Post she will be kind of ram rodding things up there, mainly because she’s lived in Helper for a lot of years and she knows a lot of people. Then also in that same day, believe or not I’ve got the Scouts from Troop 271, they have volunteered to help set flags on the 25th at the Price Cemetery and Cliffview Cemetery, so they’ve got a big job in front of them,” said Commander Schulz.  If you would like to volunteer to help adorn the graves of service men and women just show up. If you do volunteer you are asked to bring a poker or cordless drill to be able to break the ground to install a flag. Last year the organization put out over 3,000 flags on graves in the Castle Country area.

The Memorial Day Services will begin on Monday, May 29 in the morning in Helper. “We’re starting in Helper, at the Helper Cemetery, and from there, we go to both of the cemeteries here in Price, then we move to Wellington. We do a ceremony there in Wellington. From there, we go to East Carbon and we do a ceremony there and then we load the cars and we head to Green River. Our last ceremony will be in Green River at 2:30 pm and support the Veterans that are down there. It’s surprising how many Veterans are laid to rest in the Green River Cemetery, it really surprised me the first time I went down there,” said Commander Schulz. Everyone is encouraged to attend one of the ceremonies in recognition of the freedoms fought for and protected by our service members and veterans.

The schedule for the Memorial Day services is as follows:

Price Cemetery                            9:30 am
