The Price City Fire Department would like to remind residents to be extremely careful around bodies of water due to the Spring runoff. Captain, Janarie Cammans took time to come into Castle Country Radio to share some important safety reminders.

It’s very important for residents to proceed with caution when around any bodies of water in the Castle Country area. “I think that’s a very safe way to say it. Typically, in our area, we’re very cautious, and very aware of the fluctuations of the water over the season. But this year is kind of extra special and it’s rising really quickly and very, very, fast,” explained Cammans.  So its important that if you are around bodies of water that you do not get in or try to cross through. Be sure to watch over children and pets when out recreating near bodies of water.

Not only should you worry about your personal safety around the water but you may need to worry about possible flooding on your property. Preparing for possible flooding a head of time is key to protect yourself and your property. “Being proactive and making sure water ways are clear and that it can go down stream, your gutters. Also, if you have to have sand bags, if you’re in an area that floods. There’s kind of two different flooding, there’s the kind of slow moving, that people can prepare for, and then there’s the flash flooding that nobody can prepare for, so you’ve got to be cautious of both,” said Cammans. Residents that are in need of sand bags can contact their local Public Works Department or the County Road shed.

The Price City Fire Department urges citizens to be aware and cautious when recreating during the Spring run-off.
