The Castle Country Radio’s Annual Pie Auction will be taking place on June 14 at 9:00 am on KARB Kickin’ Country FM 98.3 and 106.7. This is an annual event that helps generate funds for fuel cards for cancer patients and scholarships. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Business Manager, Ann Anderson to get all the details.

The Pie Auction originally started by helping out an employee at the time who needed assistance with medical expenses. It was after that first year that organizers decided to continue the tradition of the pie auction to help cancer patients get to and from their treatments by providing fuel cards and they also developed a scholarship. “We have a $2,500.00 college scholarship, it’s the Thomas B. Anderson College Scholarship and that is for anybody who is been diagnosed with cancer prior to graduating from high school. They can complete an application with us to get $2,500.00 to continue their scholarship or excuse me to continue their education and so that is one way we also use this money,” stated Anderson. Scholarship applications can be obtained from Castle Country Radio on Carbonville Road.

A portion of the proceeds earned from the Pie Auction also goes towards the Active Re-Entry’s PERKIE Travel Program.  “We know how important PERKIE Travels is here in our area, and so we always donate a portion of the proceeds to PERKIE Travel. So we do not take administration fees, we don’t take anything out, all the money stays here locally, helping, residents of the Castle Valley area,” said Anderson. The PERKIE Travel program is a free ride from Carbon/Emery County up to treatments in the Utah County area Monday through Friday. If interested in this service contact Active Re-Entry at (435) 637-4950.

Currently, the radio station is taking donations for homemade pies and swag/product to accompany the pies as they get auctioned off. “Wednesday, June 14, we’re going to kick off right here on your station at 9:00 am, I believe you will be kicking it off with the mayor. We already have pies being donated, people calling, and people seeing the form saying I want to donate. There are individuals that say, I can not make a pie, I don’t want to make a pie but can I donate just some cash, absolutely. We take cash donations, not only on the pie auction day but we take them all year round,” explained Anderson. A fuel card for one patient is $100.00 so any cash donation towards the cause is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to make a donation towards Castle Country Radio’s Annual Pie Auction you can do so easily, as Anderson explains, “If there is a business that is wanting to donate a pie, donate cash or donate an item our cutoff date is Wednesday, June 7, so that’s a week before the Pie Auction, just so that we can get everything organized. You can contact me directly here at the station, 637-1167. If you are wanting to do a pie, I can take pies up until June 7 or we hit that 50-pie deadline.” All pies that are purchased from the auction or donations that are made may be counted towards a tax deduction for 2023 income taxes.
