Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Avis Patricia Roper, affectionately known as Pat, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on May 30, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 82.
Pat was born on October 24, 1940 in Price, Utah to Jackson Orlando and Lois Olsen Anderson Jewkes. She was a bundle of joy and happiness to everyone around her. Growing up her life was blessed through her special relationships with her grandparents and great-grandparents.
Pat graduated from Carbon High School, attended beauty school, and then began her career working for Mrs. Rich in Price while she awaited the return of her missionary, true love, and eternal companion, Ronald Rey Roper. They were married and sealed on June 4, 1960 in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they created a haven of peace and harmony for all who entered their home.
Pat’s heart overflowed with love for her family and friends. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She showered them with love, affection and, of course, delicious food. She had a special knack of making friends wherever she went. People were drawn to her because of the loving kindness she showed everyone. She is truly leaving a legacy of faith, service, love, and cherished memories.
As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faith was central in Pat’s life. Her relationship with her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ was her guiding light. She radiated love, compassion, and forgiveness in all she did. Her love of learning from the scriptures was very important to her and she always found peace from reading them. Her unwavering discipleship to Jesus Christ brought comfort and strength to her heart and to the hearts of those who knew her.
Pat’s love for the youth and sisters of her ward was evident through the many hours of service she gave as a Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary President, as well as Compassionate Service Leader. She found ways to serve throughout her life, never allowing her physical limitations to stop her in her later years.
Pat is survived by her sweetheart, Ronald Rey Roper; four children, Debra Christensen (Gaylen), David Roper, Rona Welton (Keith), Christopher Scott Roper (Christine); 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and a loving circle of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson and Lois Jewkes; her infant son, Christian Wayne Roper; daughter-in-law, Teresa Roper; and great-granddaughter, Cora Welton.
