
As usual Huntington Heritage Days kicks off with a rodeo on June 23 and June 24 at 8:00 pm. This year’s celebration is sure to have lots of great activities and events for residents of all ages to enjoy. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Huntington City Council Member, Tom Kay to get all the details.
“We’re going to kick off June 23 and 24 with our great Heritage Days Rodeo. Oh yes, it’s open to everybody, and that locals, and people from out of state and in state, yea it’s open to everybody,” said Kay. The cost to attend the rodeo is $10.00 for adults, ages 13 -17 $5.00, and 12 and under are free. The signup times for contestants is 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm June 12 and you call Alyssa at (435) 764-0064.
The Heritage Days festivities will begin on Sunday, July 2 and run through till Tuesday, July 4. “Well we jump right in to Heritage Days on July 2, which is a Sunday at 7:00 pm, we’ve got the Glee Club Patriotic Program. It will be at the Stake Center on Main Street,” said Kay. Everyone in the community is invited to attend this musical number.
“From there July 3, it will start at 5:30 pm up to the Junior High, the middle school in that here in Huntington, headed up the canyon, and it’ll start at 5:30 pm we’ll have the corn hole tournament starting. It’s $30.00 a team, we got $600.00 added money to that tournament. So we’re looking to get a lot of people to come participate in that and it’ll be at the rodeo grounds,” stated Kay. That same evening there will be live entertainment such as a band and hypnotist so folks are urged to bring their lawn chairs so that they can sit and enjoy the show. There will be an ice cream social at 7:30 pm where there will be free ice cream given away. The night will close out with a kid’s bike parade and fireworks.
On July 4 the morning kicks off early with a breakfast for all to enjoy before the big parade on Main Street. “Then at 10:00 am the parade will start down Main Street. Then at 11:00 am at the junior high that’s when we from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm we got the kids free attractions, the toys and that. This year we do have an awesome zip line, so that will be really great for the young kids,” said Kay. There will be other activities and live entertainment held throughout the day for families to enjoy. The day will close out with an amazing firework show at dusk.
