Emery High School baseball players Wade Stilson and Gannon Ward both earned All-Region First Team selections for their play in the 2023 season. Mason Stilson and Hayden Abrams were recognized with All-Region Second Team nods.
Wade Stilson capped off an incredible junior season by leading the Spartans with a slash line of .554/.615/.843, leading the team in all three categories. Batting out of the two spot for most of the season, Stilson garnered nine doubles, six triples, one home run and crossed home plate 32 times.
Dominate at the plate throughout the campaign, Stilson also succeeded on the pitcher’s mound. Gathering a record of 5-2 in eight starts, he fanned a team-high 64 batters and finished with a 1.86 ERA.
Ward ended his senior campaign as one of the most feared hitters in the 3A classification. Finishing with a .524 batting average, Ward gathered a .574 OBP and slugged .774 over 26 games. Batting in the three-hole throughout the season, Ward brought in a team-best 23 runs. Adding to his stellar offensive season, Ward also swiped a team-high 16 bases.
Ward was also highly efficient in the field as he racked up a .936 fielding percentage with 43 putouts. As a pitcher he finished 1-1 from a starting role and recorded one save in a relief effort.
Junior Mason Stilson earned a spot on the All-Region Second team as he finished with a .392 batting average from the lead off spot. Finishing with 31 hits, including 27 singles, Stilson scored 32 runs and stole 15 bases.
Sophomore Hayden Abrams was effective both in the field and on the mound as he too gathered a second team selection. Hitting .312 with nine RBIs and 14 runs, Abrams made 10 pitching appearances. Finishing with a 1.90 ERA, Abrams recorded one win and three saves.
The All-Region selections are voted on by coaches within the division. The 3A All-State teams will be revealed later this month.
