Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Douglas Edward Knotts returned to the arms of his Heavenly Father on June 9, 2023.
Doug was born on December 9, 1945, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Donald Joseph and Enid Irene Bean Knotts. Doug enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities while growing up. He raced dirt bikes, fished, hunted, and trapped. He excelled in archery where he won the honor of the Robin Hood award (shooting an arrow into another arrow). He also entered a contest where he was successful in shooting a turkey, which provided Thanksgiving dinner for his family.
Doug was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Doug graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1964. He attended and graduated from the Utah Trade School.
After high school, Doug married Peggy Adams. During their union, they welcomed three daughters, Francine, Dawn Marie, and Kamette. Doug and Peggy lived in Payson, West Mountain, and Spanish Fork. Doug’s first job was as a foundry worker. Next, he gained employment as a stone mason for Lawrence and Tom Tuckett. Doug stated, “It was hard work, but I worked with good people and had a good time on the job.” Doug was an excellent stone mason. Doug and Peggy later divorced.
Doug moved to Benecia, California for a while where he worked across the bay from San Francisco making mag wheels. He returned to Utah and began working at Geneva as an ironworker and later made his way to Emery County where he worked at the Hunter Power Plant. Doug applied for and received a job with Joy Mining and Machinery and this led him to the love of his life, Brenda Lee Olson. Doug and Brenda married on September 13, 1986, in Wellington, where he added three bonus children to his life, Merlina, Brent, and Marty Stevens.
Brenda and Doug lived in various places during Doug’s employment with Joy. They found themselves in Craig, CO, Steamboat Springs, CO, Delta, CO, Hotchkiss, CO, and Carlsbad, NM. Eventually, Doug and Brenda were able to return to their beloved home in Ferron, UT where they enjoyed the life of retirement. Doug and Brenda enjoyed a wonderful cruise to Belize, Roahtan, Honduras, and Tulum Aztec Ruins. Doug loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel, and metal detect. Doug was a loving and wonderful husband who made all of Brenda’s dreams come true. He was also a talented craftsman who could fix or make anything. “Grandpa Doug” will be dearly missed by his family, especially his loving grandchildren. In 2022, they made another move to Price, UT where they could be closer to family.
