Monty Christiansen and Ryter Ekker are on their way to the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming, July 16-23. Christiansen earned fourth in the reigning cow event and Ekker finished in third in the rifle shoot.

The Emery Spartan rodeo club sent 15 participants in nine events, ranging from steer wrestling to goat tying.

Christiansen earned his fourth place finish after ending the first go in third place and then a fourth place finish in the second go. He ended the competition with 110 points, ten points better than Harley Jorgensen from Dixie and 12 points off the third place mark by Taylor Jones, also of Dixie.

Ekker claimed a fourth place finish in the first go of the rifle shoot, and then went on to earned a sixth place finish in the second go, only to come back in the short go and finish in second, earning him a third place overall finish, with 97 points just five points away from second place Whitley Hatt of South Utah County Rodeo Club.

Other top finishers for the Spartans were Dalton Allred, who earned a sixth place finish in bull riding. Kinlie Jensen finished in ninth in goat tying, and Jaylnn Fox took ninth in the Rifle shoot.
