Our beloved husband, father, friend, and Papa, Hugh Grange, 67, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2023.

He was born October 19, 1955 in Huntington to Earnest James (Jim) Grange and Patsy Herron. Hugh grew up in Huntington. In 1976, he married Vicki Barney; she then passed away in 1979. Hugh met Sherrie Oveson and they were married in 1984; their marriage was later sealed in the Manti Temple in 1993. Together they had three kids; Jaycee, Colton and Mackenzi.

Hugh was a hard worker from a young age. He was mechanic by trade but one of his favorite jobs was being a herder on Gentry Mountain. While herding Hugh broke his saddle and found himself unable to purchase a new one. So, in true Hugh fashion he bought a book, tree, and leather to make his own. After that he was hooked and went on to build saddles for many others. He was a business owner of J2 Outfitters on main street in Huntington for many years. He built a house out on the farm for his family where he raised them with the same love for farming that he had. He was a man of many talents. Hugh could work on a truck, tractor, and do any house project. He was always tinkering on something, and spent many hours in his “doghouse” (his words not our mom’s) building and working on leather projects. He had a mountain of knowledge, and he was the guy to call if you had a question. Hugh also was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Gospel.

He loved to be on the back of a horse, behind a cow. He worked on his own farm and helped the Hatch family with the farm and cows for 10 years after the passing of a neighbor/friend. Hugh was proud to be an old cowboy, but the Title of Dad and Papa were his favorites. He loved to spend time with his grandkids riding, farming, just driving around, and teaching them everything he knew. He loved John Wayne movies and could recite every episode of MASH or Andy Griffith. Over the years he has made a lot of friends and was well-respected by many. If you knew Hugh, you knew he was in charge. In the summer his buddies Clif & Craig gave him the name of the “trough boss.” Hugh was someone that jumped in and did whatever needed to be done.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrie of Huntington; son, Colton (Makaila) Grange; daughter, Kenzi (Trent) Young; the highlight of his world his grandkids Kayson, Tayne & Tag Young, and Reata Grange; brother, Steve (Jennifer) Grange; sister, Cynthia (Scott) Raffensparger; sister, Sharon; mother-in-law, Beulah Oveson; sisters-in-law, Kerri (Kip) Allred and Dawnette (Kevin) Gordon, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Patsy Grange; daughter, Jaycee; father-in-law, Don Oveson; sister, Deana Grange; and a sister-in-law, Heidi Grange.

He will be deeply missed by many.  The family would like to thank the EMS team and deputies that helped work on him, Lincare, Dr. Kelly Jensen, Bobby and staff at Mitchell’s Funeral Home.
