It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about livestock shows, obtain new traffic signs and to recognize the local libraries for a job well done. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

“Exciting about a few events coming up, there’s kind of a buzz going around about the livestock show this weekend, and this is Carbon and Emery County kids or youth that get to show off their livestock. So it’s called the Castle Country Classic Livestock Show and so it will be here in Ferron,” said Commissioner Leonard. The Castle Country Classic Livestock Show is a great opportunity for local youth to show off their animal and all their hard work. There will also be another chance to show off their animals at the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show on July 5 through July 8. Both competitions help to prepare the youth for the upcoming county and state fairs.

At the recent Commissioner’s Meeting, it was approved to obtain new traffic signs for rural parts of the county. “We get some heavy traffic, we get some high speeds, and we’ve had some inquiries and concerns about people driving a little too fast on the outskirts of town. We’re looking to purchase some of these traffic signs, they will have lights on them, so they’ll light up. We do have some high-traffic areas that we are focusing on putting these in the next few months. We are happy to do this and hopefully, it helps secure our county and make things a little safer,” said Commissioner Leonard. County Officials would like to remind citizens to travel with caution as the signs are being installed around the county.

Like with every radio interview, Commissioner Leonard takes time to highlight a county department for doing an outstanding job and this week he speaks about the local libraries in the county.  “So the library sometimes they get overlooked a little bit but they do a lot of things and with our youth being out of school right now, finding creative or good opportunities throughout the summer for education the library has different activities and events throughout the summers,” said Commissioner Leonard. Families interested in participating in the events held at the local libraries can find more information by visiting the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
