USU Extension-Carbon County is gearing up to host another DIY Craft Night on Tuesday, June 27 at 6:30 pm at the USU Extension Classroom at 751 East 100 North, Suite #1700. This course along with others scheduled throughout the summer months are a way for adults to come enjoy, create and connect with other members of the community while participating in some crafts. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Assistant Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences, Christina Pay to get all the details.
“Well they’re going to be painting, like you said, patriotic wood designs. They get to choose, there’s three sets of designs to choose from and they get to choose whatever one they want to do and then we give them a kit with the paints, and the brush, and everything, and then they get to paint it,” said Pay. Seating for the event is limited and filling up quickly. Individuals can register for the class on https://www.eventbrite.com/
Right now there is a fee associated with the course of $25.00, this is to help cover costs of materials/supplies and this is going to change after this course. “We were able to receive a grant to help defray some of the costs of the materials so all of the projects going forward will be $20.00,” explained Pay. The schedule for the DIY Crafts Nights is June 27-Patriotic Craft, July 11-Macrame Plant Hanger, July 18-Spa Crafts Night, July 25-Mason Jar Oil Candles, and August 1-Wreathes.
These gatherings are a great way to reconnect with friends and neighbors. “We want to build those, and strengthen those social connections. Because the research tells us that strong social connections improve not only your physical health, but also your mental and emotional well-being. And the science shows that it may even lengthen our lives to have these strong social connections,” stated Pay. To register visit https://www.eventbrite.com/ and just do a search for USU Extension Carbon County or the DIY Craft Night or you can come into the USU Extension Office to register.
