It’s been four long years since our area has had a county fair but this year the Carbon County Fair returns on August 10 through August 12 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with county employees, Kourtney Cox and Barry Horsley to get all the details.
“This really came about because of group of us got together and talked about how we wanted to see the fair come back to Carbon County. By a group of us, you know it’s not only county employees but people in our community came together and sat down at a table one day and said, what do we need to do? We have a beautiful facility, we have a lot of amenities that we can offer here, and a lot of space that we can utilize, and how can we use that to its potential to bring back a fair, hopefully, better than what we had before, that’s our goal,” stated Cox. The group have been busily working towards scheduling various activities and events for the fair.
County Fair organizers are partnering with Price City Culture Connection to kick the fair off on August 10. “So what we’ve done is we’ve partnered with Price City, they have a great activity going through the summer with Culture Connection and what we’ve done is partnered with them for their last day of their Culture Connection, and we’re moving it to fairgrounds for the County Fair and Charley Jenkins is going to join us at the amphitheater out there. So it will be an outdoor concert in the amphitheater behind the event center and along with that there’s going to be a cornhole tournament going on at the same time,” said Horsley. The music and activity are sure to get everyone in the mood for a fun, family-friendly weekend.
Friday the exhibits will open in the event center so folks can go through and check out the exhibits that are being displayed. There will be quilt show held inside the Carbon County Senior Center so you want to be sure to visit that facility to view all of the homemade quilts. There will be a show in the amphitheater with the Hypno Hick with a kids show at 3:00 pm and a family friendly show at 5:00 pm. “For the evening we’re bringing in a group called the Utah’s Mounted Thunder. What they do is they ride on horseback going through the arena and they shoot balloons in competition, four times, and they have penalties involved. It’s a great show, they put on a great show, they get audience participation involved,” explained Horsley. The evening will close out with a RC Air Night Flights.
“So Saturday we are starting early in the morning. We’re going to start at 7:00 am, the RC Airshow and Fun Fly will start at 7:00 am, along with morning yoga on the softball fields, so who would ever like to participate in morning yoga feel free, we would love to have you there. We’re also going to have a 5k Fun Run on Saturday morning, that will also begin at 7:00 am and they can get on our website,” said Cox. All the registration for events can be done online at https://www.carbonutah.com/department/county-fair/ Don’t forget that Saturday will be the last day to visit the exhibits in both the event center and the Senior Center. There will be talent show and car show taking place this day too both beginning at 11:00 am.
