The Carbon County Senior Center offers local seniors lots of activities to keep them busy. Director, Rebecca Taylor stopped my Castle Country Radio to share all the information about the services offered at the center.

One of the main services they offer is Meals on Wheels which is a meal program for those individuals that are home-bound. “Meals on Wheels is a fantastic program available to seniors in our area. It’s a quick qualification, and we do have to follow the state guidelines as far as qualifying you for the program. You have to be home-bound, you have to have a nutritional need, things like that. But once you are qualified and on the program, the delivery is Monday through Thursday, you get one meal. Suggested donation of $3.00 a meal, if you can, if you can’t, that’s not necessary either. We also do provide frozen meals for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, if you feel you need them, so you could actually get seven meals a week,” stated Taylor. During the COVID years, everyone was eligible for Meal on Wheels but that is no longer the case. Individuals interested in the Meal on Wheels program must qualify now that the center is operating at regular hours.

Seniors are always welcome to come into the center for lunch Monday through Thursday. “Well you can always just show up, never feel like you can’t just show up. We do kind of appreciate a call, if you know in the morning to let us know. We always make extra, just because you know, we’ll freeze the extra, use if for our mobile meals that we take out. But you’re always welcomed to come but if you can give us a call in the morning let us know you’re coming that helps or we’ll ask the seniors when they’re there are you coming tomorrow? So we can kind of have an idea,” explained Taylor. Lunch begins at 12:00 pm, Monday through Thursday with a suggested donation of $3.00.

Not only does the center offer services for folks 60 and older but they have some great activities to enjoy during the week. “There’s BINGO on Wednesday. Thursday is a really popular day after lunch, that’s our shopping day. We do require 24-hour notice on that. We rotate between Lin’s, Smith’s and Walmart. So after lunch you can hop on the bus and we take you to go do your grocery shopping, and help you with your bags and things to load into the bus and then go back home,” said Taylor. This is a free service for seniors in the Carbon County area.

All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter that is readily available at the center or by calling (435) 636-3202.
